The biggest improvement would be the new optical system that is far more efficient than the older reflector design. It has dedicated flood beam, spot beam, mixed beam and red beam. 

2nd biggest change, the newly shaped dual button controls help you easily control the light without looking as the power and mode buttons now feel completely different.

The last big change is the new 4 stage power indicator that immediately shows you how much power is left.
