Privacy Policy
Effective: 17 September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Dwights Outdoors Limited (Dwights, we, us or our) collects, uses, shares and protects personal information. We comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, including the information privacy principles and the indirect-collection notification requirements that apply under IPP 3A.
What we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- identity and contact details, including your name, email, telephone number, delivery address and billing address;
- account and membership details, including sign-in status, account preferences and membership activity;
- transaction information, including products viewed or purchased, prices, returns, warranties, delivery details and payment status;
- communications with us, including customer service enquiries, reviews, survey responses and competition entries;
- marketing preferences and records of consent, subscription, delivery, interaction and unsubscribe requests;
- technical and usage information, including device, browser, IP address, cookies, similar identifiers, pages viewed and interactions with our website and advertising; and
- information reasonably needed to prevent fraud, protect accounts, comply with law or resolve disputes.
Payment card details are generally processed by our payment providers. We do not receive the complete card number.
Where information comes from
We collect information directly from you when you create or access an account, join Dwights Members, place an order, contact us, visit a store, subscribe, enter a promotion or use our website.
We may also receive relevant information from Shopify and other service providers, payment and delivery providers, marketing platforms, fraud-prevention providers, social or advertising platforms, publicly available sources, or another person acting with your authority. Where the Privacy Act requires us to notify you about information collected from another source, we will do so unless an exception applies.
How we use personal information
We use personal information to:
- create, secure and administer accounts and Dwights Members;
- recognise signed-in or returning members and provide eligible Members Prices and benefits;
- process payment, orders, delivery, click and collect, returns, warranties and customer support;
- send essential account, security, order, recall and service messages;
- record and respect email, SMS and other marketing choices;
- personalise products, recommendations, website content and advertising where permitted;
- measure and improve our stores, website, products, service and marketing;
- detect and prevent fraud, misuse, security incidents and breaches of our terms;
- meet legal, tax, accounting, safety and regulatory obligations; and
- carry out another purpose you authorise or that is permitted by law.
Member recognition and personalised experiences
When you sign in, we use your account and cart information to display eligible member pricing through product, collection, cart and checkout. With appropriate cookies or similar technology, we may also recognise that a device has previously used a Dwights account so we can offer a sign-in prompt. Recognition is not the same as being signed in, and it does not grant Members Prices without the required account session.
You can manage cookies and similar technologies through your browser and, where a regional consent notice is provided, through the controls in that notice. Blocking some technology may reduce personalisation or prevent certain features from working as intended.
Email and SMS marketing
Email marketing is optional and is not a condition of joining Dwights Members or receiving eligible Members Prices. Creating an account or signing in does not by itself subscribe you. We record your marketing preferences and consent, and respect existing unsubscribe choices unless you give fresh consent. You may decline or unsubscribe without closing your account or ending membership. SMS marketing requires a separate opt-in.
We send commercial electronic messages only where we have the consent required by the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. Messages identify Dwights Outdoors and include a clear way to unsubscribe. You can also contact us to change your preferences. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop essential order, account, security, recall or membership administration messages.
Who we share information with
We may share the minimum information reasonably needed with service providers that help us operate, including Shopify, hosting and IT providers, payment providers, delivery and fulfilment providers, customer support and review platforms, analytics and advertising providers, email and SMS providers, professional advisers, fraud-prevention providers and regulators or law-enforcement agencies where required.
Some providers process information outside New Zealand. Where New Zealand law requires safeguards for an overseas disclosure, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient provides comparable protection or otherwise comply with the Privacy Act 2020.
We do not sell personal information. If our business or assets are reorganised or sold, information may be disclosed subject to confidentiality and applicable law.
Security and retention
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the information we hold. No system can be guaranteed completely secure, so you should protect your account and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above, including legal, tax, warranty, fraud-prevention and dispute-resolution requirements. We then delete, anonymise or securely dispose of it where practicable.
Access, correction and complaints
You may ask to access or correct personal information we hold about you. You may also ask a privacy question or make a complaint. Contact our Privacy Officer at online@dwights.co.nz with the subject “Privacy request”, or write to Dwights Outdoors Limited, 802 Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt 5018, New Zealand.
We may need to verify your identity before actioning a request. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices or legal obligations change. The current version and effective date will be published here. Where a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will take reasonable steps to provide additional notice.
