Kovea Scout Stove

Excellent for cooking up breakfasts & coffee in the campervan.

It's sturdy construction and compact size means it's easy to find a home for it. Once connected the larger burner ring becomes a stable cook surface and ideal even for pancakes in my hiker pan. The piezo ignition is also an upgrade from my regular micro hiker stoves.

Now I don't have to roll out the full rear kitchen in the mornings on overnight stops or run down the batteries with the induction cooktop on cloudy days. Five stars all day every day!

Sturdy and stable for larger pots/pans

I’ve only used the Kovea Scout on one trip so far, but I’m really happy with it. I bought it specifically to safely hold a larger pot (my Sea to Summit 2.2L collapsible pot), and it felt perfectly stable thanks to the sturdy construction and four support arms. Compared with my lightweight three-arm backpacking stove, I’ve traded some weight and compactness for much better stability — a trade-off I’m happy to make when boiling larger volumes of water or cooking for 2+ people.

It comes in a rigid cube storage box, which I initially thought I’d ditch, but I ended up keeping it and using the extra space for a lighter, scrub cloth and small bottle of Wilderness Wash. I actually like knowing the stove is protected and safely packed away.

Great service from Dwight’s too — I ordered online on Sunday afternoon and it was delivered to my Auckland address within 48 hours.

Overall, very happy with it so far and looking forward to putting it through its paces on the Abel Tasman. I’d recommend it if you want a sturdy stove for larger pots and pans and aren’t trying to go ultralight.
