12 years on - going strong

We purchased our homestead deluxe in the 2011/12 season, 12 years on it's going strong. I have waterproofed the seems once, so they don't seep. I waterproof the roof once a year. We go camping for 2 weeks over summer, with 6 of us. 4 kids in bunk beds in one wing, 2 adults in the other. Dining room in the middle, the porch has sunroom sides, so we can use it as a fully enclosed kitchen. We have an additional porch attached, which we use as a sun shade, we attach sunroom sides to it if it's raining, so we can come in and out easier. There is precious little wear; such a great strong durable tent. Sometimes seepage/leak in the roof vents, if you don't velcro them up well (I'm super careful now and it's not a problem - make sure you seal them well before they get wet.) Love that the vents can all be opened when it's raining to allow air-flow. The only negative is how big the tent is; but that's also it's attraction - a great family tent. It's also very easy for 2 people to put up, compared to the traditional frame tents that just have 2 longer sides, the 4 arms are much easier to put up than the 2 arm tents. Highly rate it. Wouldn't consider another brand if I had to replace it.

            Best service

I haven't put this tent up yet, but cannot commend the customer service enough. We urgently needed a tent from Wellington to Auckland within a day, and Dwight's made it possible. Thanks so much guys. This has made a camping family extremely happy!! Yet to pitch, so may update, but by all accounts, this will live up to expectations

            Yes, but understand it’s a big tent….

We have been on two camping trips, and yes this is a really great tent. Very comfortable, but there are some things to consider….

Main tent bag, 40kg. That’s too heavy to lift into our roof space for storage. It’s also massive. About the same volume as a washing machine, but narrower and taller. Won’t fit in a saloon car boot, will need an estate or MPV sized boot.

Pole bag, 20kg. Teenagers struggle to lift it without endlessly whining. It’s too long to fit lengthwise or across when packed in our car boot, it has to diagonally, which makes packing everything else around it like a fun game of Tetris.

Size when pitched: When you are booking your space in a camp site, your first question is about the max size of their pitch. Some campsites are simply not able to handle the tent.

Setting up the main tent is refreshingly easy, but will need two people. Likewise, dropping camp and packing it back up, is also straight forward,

What is it like camping in the tent? It’s superb. Two days ago, we had 30 degrees, full on sun, and with the tent zipped up, but all ventilation mesh open, it stayed cool enough that our chocolate didn’t melt. The roof vents are incredible.

For colder weather, I’d imagine that the spacious, high ceilings will mean that you won’t keep the tent as warm, but if you are 3 or 4 season camper, I’m sure your choice of clothes and bedding will be matched accordingly.

            Superb tent

We have had our Homestead tent for about 7 years now. It is awesome, one of our best purchases ever. It is easy and quick to put up with two people. Over the last few days of camping we have been hammered by very heavy rain and gale winds, but we have been dry and cosy in our Dwights tent. They are definitely designed and manufactured to handle the ‘best’ that NZ weather can throw at it. Highly recommended.
