For trampers and explorers who need dependable all-weather coverage in New Zealand's notoriously unpredictable conditions, the Peak XV Explorer Parka delivers a serious combination of waterproofing and warmth in a knee-length design built for real outdoor use. Whether you're day-walking the Abel Tasman in a late-autumn downpour or navigating the exposed coastal sections of the Banks Peninsula Track, this parka keeps the weather firmly on the outside.

The 2-layer waterproof construction carries a 10,000mm waterproofing rating alongside a matching 10,000g/m² breathability rating, meaning you stay dry from both rain and internal moisture during active tramping. Synthetic insulation provides consistent warmth even in damp conditions — a meaningful advantage over down in the notoriously wet West Coast and Fiordland environments where moisture management is everything. The knee-length cut gives full leg coverage in exposed conditions, while the removable belt allows you to adjust fit and coverage on the go.

A fleece-lined collar and chin guard prevent chafing and drafts during long days, and the deep hand pockets double as handwarmers when the temperature drops on a saddle crossing. The Explorer is constructed to work as a standalone outer layer for most New Zealand conditions, from Northland's subtropical showers to South Island alpine rain.

This is the parka for women who want a single, versatile outer layer that covers both end-to-end protection in heavy weather and enough breathability for sustained walking — a genuine all-day explorer's jacket at a Peak XV price point.

Pleasantly surprised

I have looked at this coat for a while as I wanted a good wet weather coat for work and out about. I just received it and it is great. Better than I expected. It is made of a great material that is tidy and practical. It is more warmer than I expected. It is of a good length. I was only going to wear it for wet weather but I think I will use it for more. Great purchase and Dwights were great to deal with.

the BEST raincoat

This is the best raincoat for windy Wellington NZ. I had bought the similar unisex raincoat last year--it kept me dry but I didn't like the boxy fit. A raincoat is so essential here that I treated myself to the Women's XV Explorer Parka and I am glad I did! I prefer the contoured fit of the women's jacket. It seems a bit warmer than the unisex raincoat, but still a good spring raincoat, rather than a winter parka. It is my favorite coat by far.

Fantastic parka

I bought this for my adult granddaughter. She absolutely loves it. It doesn't let the rainwater in like her previous jackets, and is very warm.

Womens Peak XV Explorer Parka

This coat has to be one of the best investments I have ever purchased. Such a versatile, stylish and comfortable parka. I use it every day for catching a ferry, train or bus to work. You certainly do not need an umbrella that blows inside out when you invest in this jacket. The only issue I would have for myself, would be the hood does not cover my face fully. Especially in heavy rain, therefore makeup a waste of time!

Love the length coverage and the belt just completes this perfectly. Thoroughly recommend.

Cosy and warm

I haven’t tried this coat in a real prolonged downpour but it kept me dry in a shower. It is warm and roomy to have several winter layers under too. It looks smart enough to wear to work and the hood is big enough to cover all of my head and over the front of my face which helps in windy rainy weather. I like the warm material in the collar and the fact it has a zip and press buttons if I’m in a hurry do I can just do up the press buttons instead of fiddling with a zip. It goes below my knees keeping my skirt dry (I’m 65cm tall) and I went up a size to a 14 so I’d have room to wear lots of thick jumpers and fleece vest etc under it and it’s perfect!
