A ONE PLANET classic, the tapered rectangular Bush Lite bag sets the standard for bushwalking. The vertical baffle system reduces the  movement of air and down, preventing cold spots, while the more relaxed fit adds wriggle room and versatility. The Pertex Endurance shell is brilliant in damp conditions, providing excellent breathability and water resistance at minimum weight. An inner of highly breathable, 15-denier Vapour Vent fabric saves weight and adds luxury, as does the 3D neck muff.

Pertex® Endurance

Sleeping bag fabric must perform two roles: keep the fill in the bag and allow body-generated moisture to get out. The shell fabric must also keep external moisture out in some conditions; in bags designed for extreme use, highly water-resistant shell fabric is preferable.

Pertex Endurance is the lightest, most breathable and weather-resistant fabric we can find. It weighs a measly 36 g/m2, has a water head of 1000 millimetres and a breathability of 7000 g/m2/24 hours (according to results from test JIS L 1099 A-1). You do the comparisons: it’s hard to beat! The fabric combines an air-permeable membrane with a durable nylon face fabric: the membrane is so thin it barely affects the weight or softness of the material, but it is highly breathable and water and wind resistant.

Temp Rating

One Planet sleeping bags are rated using the international standard for sleeping bag performance, ISO 23537-1. (This is a revised version of European Standard EN 13537.) This means every sleeping bag has two ‘real world’ and one extreme rating. To determine what temperature might be most suitable for you see our technical pages.

  • ‘Comfort’ rating is based on a ‘standard’ woman having a comfortable night’s sleep.
  • ‘Limit of comfort’ is based on the lowest temperature at which a ‘standard’ man is deemed to be able to have a comfortable night’s sleep. This is the figure we use in our product descriptions.
  • ‘Extreme’ rating is a survival rating for a ‘standard’ woman. According to ISO 23537-1, ‘a strong sensation of cold has to be expected and there is a risk of health damage due to hypothermia’. This is a survival rating only, and consumers should not rely on this rating for general use. The best guidelines are the comfort and limit of comfort ratings.

Bush Lite sleeping bags come in two sizes.

As a general rule, our sleeping bags are a little roomier than other brands. The shoulder circumference measurements (below) give an indication of the internal space in the sleeping bag.

Down

ONE PLANET Hydrophobic Down

800-850 loft Hydrophobic duck down is our premium choice – a must for the gram counters. This high-lofting white duck down delivers luxurious warmth at a fine, feathery weight. This down has excellent compactability and loft recovery.

Down is the best insulation for lightweight sleeping bags due to its loft, compressibility and durability. However, this golden fibre has a failing: its ability to insulate drastically decreases when it is wet.

The solution is now here – Hydrophobic Down. This down has been selected to meet our rigorous standards, with a durable water-repellent (DWR) treatment applied after the cleaning and sorting process.

The benefits of Hydrophobic Down are:

  • It absorbs less water in damp conditions
  • It retains higher loft (insulation) in damp conditions
  • It dries faster

Ethically sourced down

Our down is ethically sourced, harvested and cleaned before purchase, with both the down and our supplier passing independent International Down and Feather Laboratory (IDFL) audits relating to ethical traceability. This means that the white down and feathers we purchase are from animals that haven’t been live plucked or force-fed at any point during the supply chain.

The IDFL has been around almost 40 years and has a solid base in China, from where around 75% of the global supply of down is sourced. There are more details on the IDFL here: www.idfl.com/whytest
